Sedef Gali
Sedef Gali (b. 1990, Istanbul) is a multi-faceted artist based in Istanbul and New York. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in New York, where she specialized in Interior Design and Painting. Her comprehensive international academic background also includes an International Baccalaureate Diploma and an Art & Design diploma from Central St. Martins in London.
Gali’s artistic practice is deeply influenced by her upbringing in cities characterized by diverse cultures. Her work explores socio-cultural eras, cultural contrasts, and the intricate layers of human emotion as experienced through social interactions. She celebrates the vibrant and often chaotic essence of metropolitan environments, reflecting how these dynamics manifest in society through her distinctive use of color.
Her body of work frequently delves into themes of dreams, memories, cultural dichotomies, and emotional complexities. Gali’s art, which she describes as “sugarcoated chaos,” serves as an exploration of suppressed human emotions, examining how they are often veiled within societal constructs through her masterful application of color and illusion. She has a notable exhibition history, including live art performances, brand collaborations, and studio pop-ups across Turkey and the United States. Key venues include Cemberlitas Basin Museum, Hole Gallery, St Tropez Fine Arts, Contemporary Istanbul, and Manhattan Center.
