Nicholas Devlin

Nicholas Devlin (Ó Dobhailéin, b. 1993, Canada) is a Brooklyn-based sculptor whose work investigates mythopoetics, fantasy literature, and architectural theory. Grounded in research spanning Yeatsian folklore to the Picturesque movement, Devlin constructs high-relief wall pieces, functional art, and spatial installations that position fantasy as the sublime threshold between a Todorovian understanding of the uncanny and the marvelous.

Guided by Pallasmaa’s "thinking hand" and Christopher Alexander’s "test of aliveness," Devlin employs a custom-formulated sequence of layered mediums to obscure the material origins of his surfaces, resulting in objects with a distinctly unreal, illusory quality.

Devlin holds an MPhil from Cambridge University and a B.Env.D. (Honors) from the University of British Columbia, and recently completed an artist residency at Cill Rialaig in Co. Kerry, Ireland. His work has been exhibited at IRL Gallery (NYC), Superhouse Gallery (NYC/Milan), and Objective Gallery (NYC/Shanghai), and is held in various international private collections. Recent fair presentations include Untitled Art Fair (2025), Collectible Design Fair (2024), and Design Miami (2022). Named a 2024 recipient of Sight Unseen’s American Design Hot List award, his practice has been highlighted by Curbed, Artnet, The Art Newspaper, ARTnews, and Architectural Digest.
