J McDonald

J McDonald’s otherworldly furniture and sculpture bring a refined simplicity into

dialogue with the complexities of nature. Fascinated by the tensions between humanity and the natural world, as well as between our logical and intuitive minds, his work brings the dominant rectilinearity and clean minimalism of human rationalism against the chaotic, organic, and intuitive forces of the world.  Working in the space between sculpture and furniture, his work realizes ideas around nature, space, tactility, intuition, and the human condition through an obsessive attention to craft and materiality.  Working across a wide range of mediums but specializing in metal, plaster and paper, his unique and small edition pieces are handmade to examine and redefine our perception and experience of the world, ourselves, and the relationship between the two.
