Bert Funari
Bert Furnari is a multidisciplinary artist and self taught metal fabricator. He’s co-founder of eleven20 Art Studios and Workshops in Easton, PA where he maintains a studio and overseas the metal shop. His material of choice is aluminum due to its malleability, strength to weight ratio and 100% recyclability. Every piece is unique. While similar, even a set of end tables will be two unique tables. And everything begins as 1/8” thick milled sheet aluminum that is cut, bent, shaped, welded or otherwise manipulated with an ever present attention to detail and form before being powder-coated then baked in an oven large enough to park a truck. His retro-futuristic creations may incorporate other material without fear; wood, wool, fur or fabric that he stains or dyes in-house to match. For mirrors he hand cuts the glass to fit the recess and uniformly sands the edges so there are no sharp bits to sting curious hands. Inspired by patterns and forms that you might find under the sea, under the lens of a microscope, or under a forest canopy. His work can be found in homes and institutions throughout the US, Europe and Japan.
